Adrienne believes in the American Dream—a vision where everyone has a fair shot at
succeeding, parents can provide for their families, and children receive a high-quality
education. However, many Texans are feeling the pinch of rising costs and economic
inequality. Since COVID-19, grocery prices have surged by 17%, housing costs have
skyrocketed, and high interest rates have made homeownership unattainable for many.
The current minimum wage of $7.25 is not enough to support families, and income
inequality continues to widen.
To address these challenges, Adrienne will push for job creation initiatives, a higher
minimum wage, and substantial investments in skills training programs. She is
committed to advocating for affordable housing policies and supporting small
businesses by providing access to capital and reducing bureaucratic red tape.
Adrienne's vision is a Texas where economic opportunity is accessible to all, ensuring a
fair and prosperous future for every Texan.
Adrienne believes that protecting our border and fixing our broken immigration system
are critical priorities, especially as our economy remains strong and neighboring
countries continue to experience poverty, violence, and disruption. Efforts by Governor
Abbott, such as busing immigrants to Democratic cities, are not only harmful but also
ineffective in addressing the root causes of immigration issues.
Adrienne advocates for an immigration system that effectively deters illegal
immigration while upholding the rights of individuals to seek asylum. She recognizes
the essential role that immigrant labor plays in our economy and the importance of
providing a humane and efficient pathway for those seeking better opportunities. She is
committed to working with the federal government to implement common-sense
solutions that secure our border and reform our immigration system. This includes
enhancing border security measures, improving the legal immigration process, and
ensuring that our policies reflect both the economic needs of our country and the
humanitarian values we uphold. Texas must lead with compassion and pragmatism to
address these complex issues, and Adrienne is dedicated to being a part of that
leadership.
Adrienne is an educator in the public school system, and her commitment to education
is unwavering. She believes in the power of a robust public education system to
empower our children and prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the
future. Investing in our public education system is crucial for the future prosperity of our
community and our state. The current lack of adequate funding for our public schools is
a violation of our constitution's mandate to provide free public education to Texas
children. Adrienne will stand against voucher programs and work tirelessly to ensure
that our public schools receive the support they need to provide a world-class education
for every student in Texas.
Adrienne stands firmly against the school voucher programs being pushed by the
governor and wealthy billionaires. These programs divert much-needed funds from
public schools, which are already underfunded, to benefit wealthy families who can
already afford private school tuition. Vouchers cover only a portion of private school
costs, leaving many parents unable to afford the remaining tuition. Additionally,
vouchers are detrimental to rural areas where private school options are scarce or
nonexistent. This approach fails to serve all students, as private schools can selectively
admit students and often do not accommodate those with special needs.
Moreover, voucher programs lack transparency, as private schools are not required to
disclose how the funds are spent, and there is no compelling data showing that these
programs improve student achievement. The best strategy for supporting our students
and communities is to invest in Texas's public schools. Adrienne is committed to
ensuring that public schools receive the funding they need to provide a high-quality
education for every child, regardless of their background or location. By strengthening
our public school system, we can build a brighter future for all Texas students.
Adrienne is dedicated to investing in our teachers by providing them with the resources,
training, and support they need to excel in their vital roles. She will also champion the
concept of community schools in our district. Community schools are more than just
places of learning; they're hubs of support, offering resources and services that
empower students and families. By fostering strong community schools, we can create
environments where students thrive academically and socially, and where families feel
connected and supported. Adrienne's vision is to create a thriving public education
system that benefits all Texans and secures a brighter future for our children.
Adrienne is a leader who respects science, acknowledges the urgency of the climate
crisis, and is committed to taking responsible action to secure the future of our planet.
Texas faces unique challenges from extreme weather, rising temperatures, and water
scarcity, which threaten our agriculture, energy production, and communities. By
advocating for policy changes, promoting renewable energy, enhancing community
resilience, and protecting our forests, Adrienne aims to tackle these issues head on.
Taking responsible actions will not only reduce the risks to our economy and
communities from climate change but also strengthen our economy by creating good-
paying, future-oriented jobs.
Adrienne will push for comprehensive climate legislation that addresses both mitigation
and adaptation, making Texas a leader in clean energy by investing in wind and solar
power. She supports stronger building codes and improved infrastructure to protect
communities from extreme weather. Additionally, Adrienne advocates for forest
conservation and urban tree planting to absorb carbon dioxide and support biodiversity.
Together, we can build a resilient, sustainable future for Texas.
Adrienne is committed to restoring abortion rights in Texas, a state currently known for
having some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the U.S., banning abortion without
exceptions. These draconian measures endanger women's health, economically harm
women and their families, and disproportionately impact women of color, those with
limited economic means, and those in rural areas.
Access to comprehensive sex education, contraception, and family planning services
are proven to be more effective in reducing abortion rates than restrictive laws.
Adrienne believes in respecting reproductive rights for women, including the right to
choose an abortion. It is crucial to restore abortion rights and protect patients and
providers from legal risks. Restrictive abortion laws are linked to higher rates of
maternal mortality, and Texas has the 14th highest maternal mortality rate in the U.S.
Adrienne advocates treating abortion as essential health care, ensuring that all women
have access to safe and legal abortion services, which is fundamental to their health
and well-being.
Adrienne believes that we can protect our children and reduce gun violence while
respecting Second Amendment rights. Alarming statistics show that guns are now the
leading cause of death among children and teens, significantly affecting young adults
aged 15-24. Gun violence is a public health crisis that demands immediate action to
safeguard our communities and ensure the safety of our youth.
To address this issue, Adrienne supports several evidence-based measures. These
include backing CDC research on gun violence to inform policy decisions, expanding
background checks to prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands, and
implementing red flag laws to temporarily remove guns from individuals deemed a
threat to themselves or others. Additionally, Adrienne advocates for banning the sale of
assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, which are often used in mass
shootings. Through these actions, we can make meaningful progress in reducing gun
violence and creating a safer environment for all Texans.
Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the U.S., which significantly harms lower-
income families by reducing their access to essential health care services. This lack of
coverage leads to increased reliance on uncompensated emergency care, driving up
costs for everyone and straining the healthcare system. The absence of Medicaid
expansion disproportionately affects rural residents, who often have limited access to
medical facilities, and ultimately hurts the overall Texas economy.
By not expanding Medicaid, Texas has forfeited $100 billion in federal funds over the
past decade, effectively subsidizing Medicaid expansion in other states while leaving
our own residents vulnerable. Expanding Medicaid would not only provide vital health
coverage to millions of Texans but also stimulate economic growth and reduce the
financial burden on hospitals and taxpayers. Adrienne is committed to advocating for
Medicaid expansion to improve healthcare access, support the state's economy, and
ensure a healthier future for all Texans
To ensure a reliable supply of electricity for Texas's future, comprehensive measures
are essential. This includes effectively weatherizing the grid to withstand both extreme
cold in winter and extreme heat in summer. Encouraging energy efficiency can help
alleviate strain on the system during peak demand periods. Additionally, exploring
options to reduce risk by interconnecting the Texas grid with one or both major U.S.
grids could provide a crucial backup during emergencies. Reliable electricity is vital for
the state's future success, yet the legislature has not done enough to address the
issues exposed in early 2021.
The February 2021 grid failure caused significant loss of life, disruption for Texas
families, and economic damage. Over 4.5 million Texans lost power during the event,
with some enduring up to four days without electricity in below-freezing temperatures.
At least 210 people died, mostly due to hypothermia, carbon monoxide poisoning, and
exacerbated medical conditions. Texas's electricity grid remains at risk from extreme
weather, both in winter and summer. Adrienne is committed to doing the hard work
necessary to make our grid resilient and reliable.
